How Metrics Calculate and Display Increase & Decrease

Once SunriseKPI has recorded 2 or more Metric Snapshots for a Metric, those snapshots will show how the latest value compared to a previous value.

How change value is displayed

The change value is shown in one of two ways:

If the metric’s timeframe is “Since ___ days ago”, then the change value will show the amount and percent that the value increased or decreased by, along with the date of the Metric Snapshot that this value is being compared to. Like this:

If the metric’s timeframe is “Month to date”, or week, quarter or year to date, then the change value will show the current month, followed whether it is on pace to beat or fall short of the previous month, and by how much. Like this:

Different change values for different contexts

Depending on the context of where you’re viewing a Metric Snapshot, as well as the Metric’s settings, this change value may be a bit different.

Here are how those change values display in different contexts:

When viewing Metric Snapshots in your Dashboard…

Assuming a Metric does not have a “week/month/quarter/year to date” timeframe, then it will be compared to the previous day’s value for that metric. For example, today’s values will be compared to yesterday’s values.

If a Metric does have a “week/month/quarter/year to date” timeframe, then it will be compared to the last value of the last week, month, quarter, year. If this metric’s data collection does not yet go back to the previous week, month, quarter, or year, then it will not show a change value.

When viewing a Metric Snapshot in a Report…

When viewing a Report, Metric Snapshots will be compared based on the Report’s timeframe.

For example, if the Report is set to report on a monthly basis, then the Metrics shown in the report today will be compared to their values at the last day of the last month.

When using the “Time Machine” feature in a Report, the Metric Snapshots will show their values for that day in the past, compared to the previous period for this Report’s timeframe. For example, if the Report is set to report Monthly, and you go back to view August 15th, 2019, then it will show the values for that day compared to July 31st, 2019.

When viewing a Report email…

The metrics and their change values shown in a Report Email will match what is shown when viewing the Report inside Sunrise KPI

When viewing a Metric Snapshot while editing a Metric…

The Metric Value and compared values shown here will match what they show when you’re viewing the Dashboard.
